Materials science and technology are our passion. With our cutting-edge research, Empa's around 1,100 employees make essential contributions to the well-being of society for a future worth living. Empa is a research institution of the ETH Domain.
The Laboratory for Mechanics of Materials and Nanostructures explores new coating technologies and develops scientific equipment for material analytics and micromechanics. In the context of an innovation project with Alemnis AG, we are developing a micromechanical testing platform for automatic property mapping.
Your tasks
You will design and implement control and automation software for scientific instruments. This includes tasks in software conceptualization, programming, and validation. This will be performed in close collaboration with scientists at Empa as well as the industrial partner Alemnis AG. Furthermore, you will design and implement advanced data analysis software based on existing analysis methods and standards in close collaboration with scientists.
Your profile
You hold a Master's degree in electrical, automation, software engineering or equivalent (University of Applied Science or ETH/University). Mastery of an object-oriented programming language (C# or C++) proven by achievements in the field of instrumentation, embedded software or machine control is required. Capability to formalize software specifications and to design user interactions prototypes is essential. Experience with signal acquisition and processing, communication protocols, unit and functional testing, in the context of a rich and sophisticated HMI application is desirable. Knowledge of object-oriented analysis and design methodology for industrial applications with UML, development with WPF technology is an advantage.
